Blogging Tips – Choosing The Right Niche

Blogging has taken the world by storm of late. It's estimated that there are over 112.8 million blogs worldwide. How do those bloggers choose their topics? Let me tell you, out of those 112.8 million blogs, I'm pretty sure that at least one third of them just simply blog andsqueeze everything in one blog. Well, there's nothing wrong with that. After all, blogging is also known as online personal journal. You write about your daily life and so on. Hence, youjumble everything up. Hey, some of those jumble-everything blogs are reputably famous! No, don't get me wrong. I don't underestimate them. I just prefer to write blogs by choosing the right niche or topics. Here's what I have to share on how to choose the right niche.

First, Passion. Think deep down, what is your passion? Traveling? Sports? Entertainment? How do you decide? Let's see. If you were to sit in front of your TV every weekend waiting for your favourite soccer team to edge its nemesis in English Premier League, then, Soccer could be your favourite topic. On the other hand, if you are a die-hard fan of Roger Federer, then go ahead and blog about Tennis or tennis players. If you are passionate about certain things, you blog because of interest and not because of chore. Thus, it's the passion and interest that produce an informative piece of work. Whether you are passionate in what you write, it is shown clearly in your blog. So, beware!

Second, Skill. Decide and write down what are the things that you do well in? Playing the piano? Cooking? Baby-sitting? No harm to write on “How to play the piano” or “How to cook spaghetti” or even “How to babysit”. You will be surprised with the number of searches it has in Google search engine. Common, think and dig all the skills you have in you.

Third, Knowledge. After you have listed out your skills and passions, compare them andexamine them. Do you have the knowledge to write those topics? Can you compose regularly for a particular topic? Do you think other people are interested in your selected topic? If you are quite sure the answer is Yes to all of the questions above, then pick that topic and start typing right away!

Next, Research. Research on? Keywords and potential traffic, my friends. There are a lot of keyword research tools out there on the net. Just google for it. Type in the primary keyword for the topics you selected. The result will be a list of keyword phrases that the Netizens were searching for the past months. Therefore, with that list, you get a rough idea on the keywords that you should use in your content and you get to know how famous the topics are.

Time is your concern as well. It's always advisable to choose a topic that you are pretty sure that you have the time to cover it. There are topics which are too broad and they require a lot of your time and dedication. So, remember, spend your time wisely and narrow your focus to a more defined niche. As blogging technology improves over the time, you can actually prepare your blog beforehand and then schedule it to be published at a designated time and date. Wordpress is one of the blogging platforms which is capable of performing such task.

Income. Would you like to earn money from your blog? If yes, (I assume most people would say yes) then you need to study the topics you select properly. Are there a lot of competitors who have written them? The web will be cluttered with the same topics if everyone chooses the same subjects. Try to write something which not many people have written and yet it's something which a lot of people are keen to learn. I know it's not easy, just try your best to look around, search on the net, forums and so on. Sometimes it's those topics which are less popular but they are the big earners. Never pick a subject that you see other bloggers areearning big bucks out of it. There are a few ways you can make money by blogging – namely,sponsored review, Google AdSense, being an affiliate and link the affiliate link in your post. Of course there are other methods but, I won't cover them in-depth here.

Bear in mind that, you need to choose a subject that you can see yourself writing it next year. Blogging is not as simple as it is because you might face hiccups along your way as a blogger and that's when you tend to give up your niche. You may even question yourself on yourpriorities and the objectives of your blog after a while. This is common among bloggers. I faced it before and at times, it still happens to me. Don't get swayed away. Know your objective and your goals. Creating a famous blog requires time, effort and dedication.

So, there you go, 6 tips to choose the right niche for your blog. Nothing comes easy, ok? So, you can try first on your selected niches and see for yourself the niche you think suits you best. Take me for example, I like entertainment news, so I blog about entertainment industry. I'm in Internet Marketing field, I have a blog about Internet Marketing as well. Of course, there is always room for myself to rant and shout. That's when the blog has got to be kept private. :) You wouldn't want your superior to know that you are ranting about them would you? :P
